Poetics of Cloth
My artistic process parallels my sense of control; the handling of each fold, each light and dark, each stitch, equivalents the handling of my presentation to others. The fabric landscape is a way to explore my own identity, as each fold reveals and conceals. Not only has the subject matter been a representation of my own coping mechanisms, it becomes a depiction of anyone’s personal hidden narrative. In our high-pressure society, we are pushed to present a perfect image, letting few see what is truly amidst our fabric. While my work may not reveal the physical body, the relationship to the physical is evident. The ambiguous fabric landscape, suggests a reference to humanity, whether personal or holistically.
